The formulas offer a gentle introduction to basic natural perfumery, allowing you to learn through hands-on experience with blending, adjusting, and exploring aromatic materials. Each formula is intentionally minimal, featuring natural aromatics that are easy to work with and can be adjusted according to your needs. Unless otherwise specified, the ingredients have no maximum dermal limits and are generally safe for everyday use, including in perfume formulations. The blends are unisex, focusing on the raw beauty of the materials rather than fitting into traditional fragrance categories. You are encouraged to adapt them freely based on your personal preferences, mood, or creative inspiration.

The following formula is best suited for intermediate-level students who have prior experience working with precious, rare, and viscous aromatic materials. It assumes familiarity with proper dilution techniques, careful blending of potent absolutes, and the ability to handle high-value ingredients with precision and care. This exercise is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of complex floral accords, refine your sensory evaluation skills, and explore the emotional and olfactory layering that rare botanicals can bring to a composition.

A perfume accord is a balanced blend of two or more fragrance ingredients that create a unified, new scent impression, much like a chord in music. It serves as a building block in perfume composition.

Ambergris is a rare, waxy substance produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. Aged and oxidized by the ocean, it develops a complex, sweet, marine, and animalic scent prized in perfumery for its fixative qualities and unique depth. Natural ambergris is now often replaced by botanical or synthetic accords due to ethical and legal considerations.

In perfumery, Ambra typically refers to a botanical or synthetic ambergris accord, a warm, deep, and complex scent blend inspired by natural ambergris but created without animal-derived ingredients. It’s often rich, slightly resinous, sweet, slightly animalic, and marine in character.

Ambra Accord is a botanical interpretation of ambergris. It is not a precise imitation of the scent, but rather a creative rendering. Adjust the ratios based on your personal preferences, this is recommended, as it allows you to develop your own style rather than imitate the work of other perfumers. Use the formula as an accord or as a complete perfume, though it may be heavy; some may wish to add top and heart notes to lighten and lift it.
