Behind the Scenes: Past Projects, Creative Chaos, and Future Ideas
I’ve been keeping a perfume journal ever since I started working with natural scent. From the beginning, I wanted to document not just what I created, but also what never made it to my website: unfinished blends, one-off experiments, and ideas that were set aside or quietly faded away. A lot was left behind. This post is a look back through those pages: a review of unrealised projects, reformulated perfumes, abandoned themes, and concepts that never quite found their final form…
The Intersection of Plant Medicine and Natural Aromatics
I’ve long been intrigued by the unmistakable scent of DMT and its powerful ability to trigger vivid olfactory memories and sensory flashbacks. Scent is a potent key to unlocking altered states, and DMT’s aroma—often described as simultaneously floral, metallic, and otherworldly—seems to carry a kind of psychoactive resonance on its own… It’s fascinating to consider how compounds like indole or even skatole, which are present in both DMT and natural perfumery, might bridge the worlds of plant medicine and scent. At one point, I even fantasized with a friend about creating a perfume that mimics the unique scent of DMT—something that could evoke memory, mystery, and perhaps even a subtle shift in consciousness. —David Jay Brown, author of The Illustrated Field Guide to DMT Entities (personal communication, July 2025)
